Your experience

The background you will need

Every position is built around relevant experience in delivering person-centred support.

  • A strong interest in supporting people with Autism, Mental Health needs and Learning Disabilities.
  • A proven ability to support people while protecting their dignity and treating them with respect.
  • Previous experience helping others in either a paid role or a voluntary position.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience supporting people with Autism, Mental Health needs or Learning Disabilities.
  • Practical experience in administering medication.
  • Experience delivering and planning person-centred care.
  • Previous experience supporting people with epilepsy.

Expertise & credentials

Core knowledge for safe, person-centred support

  • A sound understanding of the needs of people with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health needs.
  • A Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, or a commitment to achieving one.
  • Knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations.
  • A willingness to meet personal development objectives and undertake all required mandatory training.
  • An understanding of the key-worker role and its responsibilities.
  • Strong awareness of accountability, confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • A clear working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.

  • Clear spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to produce brief, informative reports.
  • The ability to manage your time and workload, take initiative, work independently and remain effective under pressure.
  • The ability to contribute positively and reliably as part of a team.
  • A considerate and discreet approach when assisting with personal care or health-related matters.
  • Competence with computers, databases and Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Availability for a flexible rota across our 24-hour service, covering morning, evening, night and weekend shifts.
  • Empathy for people with Mental Health and complex support needs, with the sensitivity to assist someone experiencing distress.
